JACKIIIEEE. God, such a beautifully constructed character, even with all her bluster. I miss her.
Actually, in Moffat’s era one of the things I miss most is  companions having family history or ties. How much did we learn about Martha the moment we met her mother? How much of Donna’s story suddenly made sense when we met Wilf and Donna’s mom? And JACKIE. JACKIE JACKIE TYLER. The woman who made Rose who she is, for all the food and bad. We know nothing about Amy and Rory’s family. There are many ways to build character history and depth, but meeting the fam is one really easy way. It’s a lovely shorthand that helps us as viewers understand where did these characters come from? What are they reacting to? As a friend of mine said, your family installs your buttons (that’s why they push them so well).
Amy and Rory feel…flat, in a way. Not that they’re not great. But what is there outside the Doctor and each other? Life is so much more than that. There’s a blank slate of history behind each of them. It’s not like we have to know everything. But some sketching out of people as PEOPLE, human beings with history and connections to the world around them—That’s lacking. They feel like characters. Good characters, but characters, not human beings.

AMEN! BRING BACK DAVIES!

Jenna. 25. I am a sister, I am a daughter. I am a lover, I am a friend. I am a teacher, I am a learner. But mostly I'm just your average book nerd who is learning to live like a novel heroine in the real world. I believe in letter writing, handmade things, and love that lasts lifetimes. Most of all, I'm myself.

I am slightly obsessed with Doctor Who, Jane Austen, Harry Potter, books, writing, Downton Abbey, Sherlock, and David Tennant.
